AMORGOS BEACHES
The beach of Aegiali is one of the most beautiful coasts of Amorgos. The combination of sand and pebble give a unique landscape to her visitors. Across the bay is Levrossos, a snug, less-frequented sand cove; a little further along the coast are two other pretty sand beaches, Psili Ammos (whose name in Greek means “fine sand”) and Hohlakas.
In the north-east side from the port of Aegiali you can find two deserted beaches at Mikri Vlihada and Megali Vlihad. The access for the beaches is by sea or with a thirty-minute walk from Tholaria village. Further along the coast, past the rocky shorelines at Kroukellos and Metallio before turning west, is Sparti bay—a natural harbor that reaches depths of 500 meters. The island’s coast then extends into Halara, a narrow strip of beach lined with pebbles and rock shelves.
Under the monastery of Hozoviotissa there is the splendid beach of Ayia Anna. The coast continues to the beaches at Syrma and Kambi before reaching the island’s southern tip and the beaches of Mourou, Ammoudi, and the small sand cove at Paradeisia.
The beautiful beach of Kato Kampos is located in the northern side of the island. Near the port of Katapola there is Ayia Saranda beach; a deserted beach with pebbles and the pristine cove at Foinikies. The island’s main harbor, Katapola, sits next to two beaches—the gorgeous Martezi and the quieter Ayios Pandeleimon. Along the coast between Katapola and Aegiali, bathers will delight in the sand banks of Ayios Pavlos—especially popular for sunset swims—and Nikouria islet across the water. |
