AMORGOS LOCAL EVENTS
The residents of Amorgos maintain until today the customs of the island with traditional and religious festivals.
In Easter there is the Holy Week icon procession. The traditional weddings are held around the island. Also there are the festivals of the “Bales” at Aegiali, throughout the year and “Captain” at Aegiali, during Apokries (carnival preceding Orthodox Lent).
On the island are held many religious festivals, such as the Feast of Ayioi Anaryiroi at Tholaria on July 1, the feast of Ayia Paraskevi at Kolofana on July 25-26, the feast of Panayia Epanohoriani at Lagada on August 25, the feast of Ayios Ioannis at Vroutsi on August 29, the feast of Ayioi Anaryiroi at Tholaria on July 1, the feast of Ayia Paraskevi at Kolofana on July 25-26, the feast of Panayia Epanohoriani at Lagada on August 25 and the feast of Ayios Ioannis at Vroutsi on August 29.
The association of the village organises feasts in the frames of summer events. Simonidis Club in Hora organises the feast of nougat with honey and the celebration of Christ. Archaia Arkessini Club of Kato Meria organises Procession of the Jew at Easter, the dance featuring traditional foods on August 15 and the Apokries (carnival) dance featuring traditional foods on the Feast of the Tyrini (“cheese Saturday”).
