IRAKLEIA SIGHTSEEING

One of the most important monuments of Greece, the cave of Agios Ioannis is located to the island of Irakleia. As the largest cave in Cyclades, shows particular interest to natural areas and rare shaped stalactites and stalagmites. According to mythology Polyfimos was throwing stones from the cave of Agios Ioannis towards Odysseus and thus created the Avelonisia known rocks around the island.

Merichas Bay is an ideal location for those who want to observe the bird’s behaviour. Surrounded with rocks with over 100 meters height, the natural bay is forming nests among the cliffs for wild pigeons and buzzards.

Kastro is located near the beach Livadi, where you'll find items from the ancient village used as a defensive stronghold of the Hellenistic period.
 
The peak of Pappas Hill is the perfect spot for surveying the sea area around Irakleia, offering views to Ios, Paros, Antiparos, Naxos, Donoussa, Ikaria, Makares, Koufonissia, Schinoussa, Keros, Antikeri, Fidou, Agrilou, Amorgos, Anydros, Anafi, Santorini, Venetiko, and Avelonisia.

Agios Athanasios is an abandoned settlement features fine samples of Cycladic architecture and traditional island town planning.

At Almia Bay, a German hydroplane shot down during the second world war lies on the seabed, about seven meters from the surface. The wreckage is visible from the surface, but also attracts divers and underwater.
