SERIFOS SIGHTSEEING
The Folklore Museum of Serifos is in the area of Menidi. The building is special with unique architecture. The establishment of the museum dates back to 1976 and its collection features documents and artefacts—tapestries, ceramics, household furnishings, porcelain and traditional costumes. The museum is a property of the Serifos Liaison.
The Museum includes space for events with a capacity of 300 seats, which are carried out by the summer of 1995. The cultural events of Serifos Association are a kind offer, for the completion of 100 years since its establishment (1896 - 1996).
You can visit the Castle in Chora and enjoy the beautiful sunset, walking is essential for your access there.
The Archaeological Museum of the island will draw your interest for its collection. In the northeast side of the island you will see Kastromonastiro Taxiarhon. A monastery, built in 1572 noted for its high perimeter walls and battlements and low loggia entrance, located on the island’s northeast.
In the area of Koutalas you can visit some of the major attractions of the island. Most popular sights are the Cyclops’s throne, the White Tower (Aspros Pyrgos) and the tis Grias to Kastro. In the cave of Koutoulas (or Stafrakopouloy), you can see beautiful stalactites, stalagmites and crystallized ceramics. It’s noted for the rack and rail system built on the stone tracks to carry ores from the Skales mines.
The Governors’ Mansion is located in the area of Megalo Livadi, A delicate, neoclassical building, formerly housed the residence, offices, and other facilities of the Grohmann family, European businessmen who held the exploitation rights to the mines through the interwar period.
The Heroon, is a marble tribute to the Miners who rose up in 1916. You can also visit the Thermal Baths and private display of soil samples at the old school.
